A ridge walk in October
The forecast promised wind and delivered more of it than I wanted. The first two hours were spent inside a cloud, following cairns that appeared one at a time out of the grey.
Around noon the cloud dropped into the valley and the ridge came out above it. That hour is the reason for the whole trip: long shadows, frost still on the north side of the rocks, and the sound of nothing at all.
Coming down took longer than going up. It always does.
